The “Steel Raptor” is midway between the contemporary styling of the “Stealth Raptor” and the classic styling of the Retro and Rocket. It is very compatible with the classic Vespa and many of the newer scooters. It generally resembles the Piaggio / Vespa factory supplied sidecar which is no longer in production. This is a good choice for almost any use. All units in stock are finished in the Cozy factory medium gray enamel.

The scooter and sidecar windshields have removed by the owner for a sportier appearance.

Another Cozy Steel Raptor sidecar, this time attached to the Kinetic Engineering Ltd. (India) derivative of the proven Honda Aero 125 (Lead 125 outside of the US) with two-stroke engine and Varamatic transmission for right-hand drive.
While scooters of this displacement (and smaller) frequently have sidecars attached to them in India, these are generally used in highly urbanized areas with considerable congestion and high traffic density, thus not requiring high acceleration or top speed. Additionally, the average Indian is considerably lighter than the typical American. A larger displacement scooter is suggested for American driving conditions.
Careful reading of the bottom view indicates that this is a vehicle for a disabled individual showing how a Cozy sidecar can enable individuals with conditions which would otherwise not allow safe riding, to enjoy the simple pleasure of riding on a scooter, and the benefits of rapid and convenient scooter transportation.
This sidecar is equipped with matte black powder coated trim. Note the “assist bar” on the inside of the windshield. The owner has chosen to mount the sidecar spare on the rear of the scooter for a more sporting appearance. This is a custom application but is available on special order.

The Steel Raptor is very close in appearence to the Vespa sidecars of the 50s and 60s. It is shown here attached to a Honda Helix. After several tanks of gas there does not seem to be any major change in fuel consumption (still in the low to mid 50’s in mixed town/rural driving). 3/4 throttle cruising speed is about 55 MPH.
A Cozy scooter Steel Raptor (Cozy 200) with 10 inch Vespa pattern tire mounted to George’s Honda Helix using a sub-frame. A frame mounted spare tire holder is standard on scooter model sidecars. The sub-frame is over-length, both to be more universal for larger displacement tubular frame scooters and to mount a steering damper if desired. Some wobble is noticeable at very low speeds when starting but is easily controllable, so a damper has not been mounted. The sub-frame length can be trimmed using a hack-saw if desired. The Aspencade emblem on the front of the Helix is not a standard factory item.

This sidecar has matte black powdercoat trim to match the black trim on the Helix. This is a special order option available at no extra cost. Stock units will have chrome trim. Unit is shown mounted as close as possible to the scooter. Road tests indicate that it is desirable to have a slightly wider spacing comparable to compact autos.

Note that the end of the sidecar is about in line with the end of the scooter when the suggested distance between the center of the rear scooter wheel and sidecar wheel is set.
A passenger’s eye view of the windshield and grab bar. This grab bar is constructed from 1/2 inch (13 mm) heavy steel tubing and is both a mounting bracket for the wind shield and a grab bar or assist handle for the sidecar passenger or when reaching to the nose of the sidecar to store something. Passengers will tend to use the wind shield as an assist handle even when it does not have this type of reinforcement, so this is a very worthwhile feature. The windshield is constructed from heavy 1/4 inch ( 6 mm) shatterproof medium tinted plastic. Bar is finished in flat black but appears to be chrome because of direct sunlight.
