Cozy Road Rocket - Honda Helix Mounted

Friday, June 6th, 2008 Posted in Road Rocket | 1 Comment »

The larger displacement scooters such as the Helix seem to be in better proportion to the larger sidecars such as the Cozy motorcycle Road Rocket. The larger motorcycle wheel also gives a better ride on rough roads. After two tanks of gas there does not seem to be any major change in fuel consumption (still in the low to mid 50’s in mixed town/rural driving). 3/4 throttle cruising speed is about 55 MPH.

A Cozy motorcycle road rocket with 16 inch motorcycle tire mounted to a Honda Helix using a sub-frame. The sub-frame is over-length, both to be more universal for larger displacement tubular frame scooters and to mount a steering damper if desired. Some wobble is noticeable at very low speeds when starting but is easily controllable, so a damper has not been mounted. The sub-frame length can be trimmed using a hack-saw if desired. The Aspencade emblem on the front of the Helix is not a standard factory item.

(Yep, That’s George)

A passenger’s eye view of the windshield and grab bar. This grab bar is constructed from 1/2 inch (13 mm) heavy steel tubing and is both a mounting bracket for the wind shield and a grab bar or assist handle for the sidecar passenger or when reaching to the nose of the sidecar to store something. Passengers will tend to use the wind shield as an assist handle even when it does not have this type of reinforcement, so this is a very worthwhile feature. The windshield is constructed from heavy 1/4 inch ( 6 mm) shatterproof medium tinted plastic.

Cozy Road Rocket - Vespa/Bajaj Mounted

Friday, June 6th, 2008 Posted in Road Rocket | No Comments »

An all steel Cozy Rocket sidecar attached to the Vespa derivative Bajaj scooter for right-hand drive operation. Left-hand drive / right-hand mount units will be supplied for all North and South American orders unless a RHD unit is specifically requested. This unit has the popular black powder coat trim option and the Indian specification windscreen.

While not quite as “sporting” as the alternative windscreen shown in some of the other illustrations, it is very effective in keeping the wind blast from the passenger. There is a sport windscreen that is also available, or you can get both to provide improved passenger protection in colder weather as these interchange quickly. Notice the spare tire mount between the sidecar and scooter. This mount is standard on all Cozy sidecars. The spare tire/rim and cover are avilable at a very economical price when ordered with the sidecar. An alternative is a replacement rack which mounts the sidecar spare on the rear of the sidecar. Note that the base price of a Cozy includes the front bumper, side bumper, windshield, luggage / utility rack, passenger assist step, tonneau cover, frame spare tire mount and factory finish paint. Be sure to determine what is included in the base price when comparison shopping.

A Cozy Road Rocket mounted to a classic Vespa. The axial trim strips have not been installed on the sidecar a “no cost” option if specified when the car is ordered) and both the sidecar and the Vespa have been painted in the light green commonly used on early Vespas. The owner has decided to forego windshields on both the scooter and sidecar for a sportier appearance and has not mounted the side guard on the sidecar. This beautiful combination is a German unit and German TÜV vehicle standards are among the most stringent in the world showing how a Cozy sidecar meets all requirements within its design range. The front clearance light on the sidecar is a German unit required to meet TÜV regulations. Note that the front right hand running light has been removed from the scooter in accordance with German TÜV regulations. Although not visible, the same modifications were required at the rear

Cozy Retro Classic - Bajaj Chetak mounted

Friday, June 6th, 2008 Posted in Retro Classic | 4 Comments »

The Cozy Retro Sidecar in dark gray with light gray trim fitted to a smaller displacement Chetak scooter. This unit is setup for right-hand drive / left-hand mount. All units shipped to North or South America will be for left-hand drive / right-hand mount unless otherwise specified. Note the black powder coated trim and the spare tire on the back of the sidecar. The spare tire is an extra cost option that includes both the tire / rim and the cover and is especially useful for the Vespa owner who will then have both a spare tire for their scooter and their sidecar. The spare tire can also be mounted between the sidecar and scooter to allow use of the luggage rack. A spare tire mount securely welded to the frame between the sidecar and the scooter is standard on all Cozy sidecars.

The owner has chosen to remove the included windscreen from the sidecar, however the tonneau cover that is included in the base price of every Cozy sidecar, fits just as well when either the sport or the standard windscreen is fitted.

This is a very good combination for short haul urban transportation on congested streets as this provides considerable cargo capacity even when carrying a passenger to allow for useful shopping.

Note that the following 8 items are included in the base price for all Cozy sidecars: (1) front bumper,(2) side guard, (3) passenger assist step, (4) tonneau (dust) cover, (5) luggage / utility rack (spare tire carrier installed at rear of sidecar by owner on this unit), (6) frame mounted spare tire carrier, (7) windshield, (8) factory finish paint (medium gray standard on all stock units, Cozy factory colors available at no extra cost on special order)
